The Alton, a memory care community of 65 units in St. Paul, is looking for a Director of Health Services. As a Director of Health Services you will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, supervising, coordinating and evaluating the assisted living’s health care services for residents. Also will collaborate in the development and implementation of the assisted living’s policies and procedures with input from staff and ensures that staff is appropriately trained, supervised and follows the assisted living’s procedures. The Director of Health Services is responsible for maintaining excellent quality in our health care services and for assuring that our services meet all applicable state and federal requirements.
Salary range: $90,000 - $105,00 based on experience. * $5,000.00 Hiring Bonus
Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
On-Call Rotation: 1 week per month and is paid.

Job Objective(s):
The Director of Health Services is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, supervising, coordinating and evaluating the assisted living’s health care services for residents. The Director of Health Services collaborates in the development and implementation of the assisted living’s policies and procedures with input from staff and ensures that staff is appropriately trained, supervised and follows the assisted living’s procedures. The Director of Health Services is responsible for maintaining excellent quality in our health care services and for assuring that our services meet all applicable state and federal requirements.
Supervision (Given and received)
- Given: Director of Health Services will supervise the professional staff of RN’s, LPN’s and Resident Assistants and Administrative Staff. Type of position and staff numbers are determined by needs and may vary.
- Received: The Homecare Director works under the direction of the Administrator. The employee is responsible for the method in which to complete their work.
Job Responsibilities and Duties (Essential Responsibilities)
Management
- Develop atmosphere of teamwork with all departments within StuartCo.
- Establish policies and procedures and ensure they are communicated and followed.
- Maintain effective and efficient staffing ratios based on resident acuity and need.
- Establish vendor relations.
- Ensure that exposure to risk is minimized by cultivating and maintaining resident, family and staff relationships.
- Respond timely and appropriately to emergency situations.
Financial
- Monitor expenses throughout the year ensuring financial integrity of the budget.
- Responsible for overseeing monthly invoicing and collection for all services performed.
- Responsible for overseeing semi-monthly payroll review, input and approvals.
- Review care levels and a la carte services annually to determine changes in pricing.
Resident Care
- Establish and maintain proper medical documentation regarding patient care.
- Ensure that nursing staff provides on-going evaluation of patient care needs.
- Establish and maintain positive patient and family relations, e.g., effective communications, manage patient and family concerns, problem solve, etc.
- Is available for on-call medical questions and/or emergencies via phone and to fill in for the RN due to illness or vacation.
- Participates in the RN On-Call program
- Participate in Manager-on-Duty on-call rotation.
- Ensure that the professional staff is developing a plan of care, initiating, coordinating and prioritizing referrals and services for each client.
Compliance
- Comply with HIPAA regulations by maintaining and safeguarding patient and staff confidentiality.
- Responsible for compliance with the reporting requirements of the Vulnerable Adult Act and the Board of Nursing, including the investigation and immediate reporting of incidents of suspected client maltreatment to the Common Entry Point and the documentation and reporting of the findings of such investigations.
- Is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the assisted living’s infection control plan and TB prevention plan.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and laws.
- Maintains current knowledge and ensures compliance with applicable licensing requirements, laws and regulations and make sure staff is appropriately informed of new changes.
- Human Resources
- Direct supervision of unlicensed personnel.
- Ensure that tasks are delegated only to staff who are competent and possess the knowledge and skills consistent with the complexity of the tasks and according to the appropriate Minnesota practice act.
- Hire, discipline and discharge staff.
- Monitor staff performance; conduct performance reviews.
- Maintain and participate in communication between different shifts of staff.
- Ensure orientation, staff development and continuing education programs are available to all staff and work with nursing staff to implement staff education.
- Assure that staff are trained consistent with OSHA requirements regarding Employee Right to Know, bloodborne pathogens, Material Safety Data Sheets, etc. and that they follow agency safety rules and regulations. The Clinical Nurse Supervisor is responsible for identifying and eliminating to the extent possible any safety hazards for staff and for reporting and logging all work place injuries.
- Ensure that agency staff has adequate equipment, including protective equipment, that is needed to perform their jobs and that the equipment is in good condition.
- Provide in-service opportunities for staff to maintain requirements for licensure and certification.
- Schedule and create agenda for monthly staff meetings. These may be scheduled before in-service training.
- Attend staff meetings, in-service education programs and care conferences as appropriate.
